Busted - Busted (Album Artwork)

Image
Composition:
  • This particular Album Cover has has used the rule of thirds, The 3 members of the band are stood in a line like a police line up and also with a 'Busted' American stamp . This was probably done deliberately as it fits with band name. It also adds to the rebellious trait to Rock.
Framing:
  • Usually cover images are mainly portraits however this one is a wide/long shot. I think this is mainly to fit with the theme of the album title which is self titled 'Busted'. By doing this shot type they are allowing this image to show the length of the band members and also the importance of the mise-en-scene in this cover.
Layout:
  • The cover is mainly made up of horizontal line which are stereotypical for the theme of a prison line up. The black horizontal lines are representative of their height. The band members are also stood in the middle of the album cover are they are the main focus.
Colour:
  • The main colours used in the image black, white and red. This is very stereotypical of music and especially of the Rock genre.
  • The use of black and white contrast with each other making the image stand out. They have made the costumes all different colours because it makes the image stand out against the background.
Lighting:
  • The lighting of this image is very high key and was probably taken in a studio setting.
Text
  • The typography used in the Album Title is a serif font made to look like a stamp. It creates a stereotypical American Police film feel to it which works with the bands name Busted as American slang tends to call being arrested 'Busted'.
  • The position of the text is at the bottom in the middle. It has also been slanted to create the 'stamped' feel to it.
Summary
In summary the whole cover works well with the genre of music its aimed for as it's rebellious, bright and also relatable to the band.. The use of a long shot for the image is good as it makes the album notable as most use portraits however in this genre it is quite common for them to be different with their album covers.
