Composition:
- This particular Album Cover has not used the rule of thirds. It has been made up of lots of the word 'Riot!' which is the name of the album. They have made the album this way as a 'Riot' is meant to be chaotic which is exactly what this cover is meant to create by using lots of them same word in a random manner. They have done one 'Riot!' in red to show the actual name of the album to be clear. They have also randomly slotted in the band name to create the same effect.
- Usually cover images are mainly portraits however this one has no image. I think this is mainly to fit with the theme of the album title which is 'Riot!' as it gives a chaotic feel with the random placements of the word by doing this they are allowing this to see an insight into what the general theme and music of the album is like.
- The cover is mainly made up of words scattered around which gives a mad and chaotic feel.
- The main colours used in the image are white, black and red which is stereotypical for the music industry.
- The use of one red word draws attention to the name of the album and also the way they have put the name of the band in there once but so it blends makes you look around the whole cover.
- The use of black for the writing makes it look more like handwriting which I think is the general idea.
- The typography used is a scratchy font which looks handwritten which also adds to the chaotic effect as they are scattered around.
- The use of the larger red 'Riot!' draws our attention making it stand out and make it clearer to the audience about the album.
In summary the whole cover works well with the genre of music as it's meant to be rebellious and particularly to the alternative punk genre the music is quite chaotic so the use of the random 'Riot!s' scattered around works well.
